Arbitration
Dick’s extensive experience carries into arbitration. He is an American Arbitration Association (AAA) certified arbitrator and has participated in more than 150 arbitrations as either counsel or arbitrator.
He arbitrates construction and design disputes involving highways, commercial and public buildings, and residential construction, and a wide variety of commercial disputes, including commercial contracts, insurance coverage issues, environmental issues, and HIPPA cases.
Dick is listed on the AAA Panel of Arbitrators, is on the roster of neutrals for the Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 and is a Certified Neutral with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He has taken extensive ADR training throughout his career, including from AAA, the University of Missouri, and other universities and professional organizations on topics such as construction and commercial arbitration.
Dick also has been a long-time contributor through publications and presentations in ADR topics, including for the AAA, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, and more.
Mediation
Dick is an AAA certified mediator with more than 40 years of experience representing clients in complex commercial law and business litigation matters in courts and mediations around the country.
He built upon his experience as a construction and commercial attorney to now focus a large portion of his practice on alternative dispute resolution, including mediation. He has conducted more than 150 mediations involving construction disputes, business disputes, environmental issues and release of medical records disputes.
As mediator, Dick is passionate about helping parties resolve disputes early and cost effectively. He works with the parties to make sure they have the information necessary to resolve their dispute. Dick’s experience as advocate and mediator has given him the insight into how the parties should move efficiently toward a resolution.
He is particularly adept at amicably resolving construction and design related disputes and understands the intricacies of the relationships between owners, general contractors, and subcontractors. Dick was named Construction Lawyer of the Year in Kansas City, Missouri by The Best Lawyers in America® in 2013 and was a charter fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America.
Throughout his career, Dick has taken extensive ADR training from AAA, Pepperdine Law School, and other universities and professional organizations on topics including mediating complex construction disputes, advanced mediation, preventing impasses, and more. Dick is listed on the AAA Panel of Mediators, is on the roster of neutrals for the Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 and is a Certified Neutral with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Dick also has been a long-time contributor through publications and presentations in ADR topics, including for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, Association of Missouri Mediators, and more.
